Nine individuals, including a child, were wounded in two separate shooting incidents on Tuesday night in Jackson, Mississippi. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade expressed his concern on Wednesday, labeling the ongoing violence as a cycle of retaliation within the city.
One of the shootings involved a drive-by incident that left a 3-year-old girl with a foot injury, alongside adults aged between 23 and 52. Chief Wade emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that it is unacceptable for a young child to be subjected to such violence.
In another incident on the same night, three individuals were shot while inside a stolen vehicle in south Jackson. According to Wade, one of the occupants confessed to firing at unknown persons, prompting return fire from one of the targets. Wade stressed the importance of identifying all parties involved in the exchange of gunfire.
Despite the severity of the situation, Chief Wade mentioned that all nine victims are expected to recover from their injuries. These shootings occurred shortly after a separate incident where one person died, and five others were injured in a shooting near the Governor’s Mansion.
