Nine individuals lost their lives, and one person sustained severe injuries in a tragic accident in Belle Glade, Florida. The incident occurred when an overcrowded 2023 Ford Explorer, carrying 10 people, veered out of control on Hatton Highway. The vehicle struck a guardrail before overturning into a canal that runs alongside the road. The driver, a female, was unable to navigate a turn, leading to the fatal crash. Emergency responders, including Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, arrived at the scene to find the SUV submerged in the canal, with some passengers trapped inside.

The rescue efforts resulted in four individuals being declared dead at the accident site, while five more succumbed to their injuries after being transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, the driver was among the fatalities. A 26-year-old male passenger was successfully rescued and is currently in critical condition. Captain Tom Reyes, from the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, described the scene as one of the most challenging he has encountered during his 20 years of service.

The 2023 Ford Explorer involved in the accident exceeded its maximum capacity, as indicated by various Ford dealership websites, which specify a maximum of seven occupants. Authorities have not released the identities, ages, or any additional information regarding the deceased individuals. Belle Glade, located near Lake Okeechobee and approximately 45 miles west of West Palm Beach, was the site of this devastating incident.
