Jeremy Green Eche, a trademark lawyer from New York City, took a strategic move in 2020 by purchasing the domain HarrisWalz.com for a mere $8.99 while Senator Kamala Harris was vying for the Democratic presidential nomination. Eche, known as a cyber squatter, possesses over a dozen websites related to Harris, including HarrisPritzker.com and HarrisWarnock.com, with the intent to sell them for a profit. If Harris selects Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, Eche is offering to sell the domain for $15,000.
Eche’s history includes purchasing the domain ClintonKaine.com in 2011, which he later sold to a digital marketing company linked to the Trump campaign after Hillary Clinton selected Tim Kaine as her running mate in 2016. Despite his support for Clinton in 2016 and Harris in this presidential cycle, Eche is not hesitant to sell the domains, believing that it is a business transaction and the responsibility of the campaigns to secure their online presence.
The domain investor has not been contacted by Harris’ campaign regarding the potential sale of the domains. Eche also owns websites related to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and other Democratic figures, looking ahead to a possible 2028 presidential run. Despite his personal preferences, Eche views Walz as his favorite among Harris’s potential running mates.
Eche’s websites feature a simple design with the candidates’ names and are linked to his startup site, Communer, where he lists the Harris-related domains for sale. He remains skeptical that the Harris campaign will reach out before making their selection, drawing from his experience in 2016 when it took a week after Kaine was chosen for the Clinton campaign to engage with him.
While Eche supports Harris, his business mindset leads him to prioritize selling the domains to interested parties. He points out that campaigns have significant budgets and resources to secure their online presence, and selling domains is a standard practice in the industry. As of the moment, there has been no response from Harris’ team regarding their interest in acquiring the domains.
