Harris Raises Impressive $310 Million in July to Prepare for November Showdown with Trump

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign made headlines by disclosing a record-breaking $310 million in fundraising for the previous month. This considerable amount showcases a significant shift in donor sentiment towards supporting President Joe Biden’s former vice president, after initial uncertainty about the election’s outcome.
Harris’ fundraising achievement, together with the Democratic National Committee and associated groups, significantly surpassed the $138.7 million raised by Republican former President Donald Trump’s campaign and related committees in July. The Vice President’s campaign also reported having $377 million in cash reserves entering August, marking the highest cash amount for a presidential candidate at this stage of the election cycle.
Campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez emphasized the enthusiastic support received, indicating a mobilized and expanding Harris coalition ready to defeat Trump in the upcoming November election. The fundraising numbers highlighted the campaign’s emphasis on activities crucial for securing victory in closely contested elections.
Trump’s fundraising numbers in July were boosted by rallying his staunch supporters following an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally and revealing his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Meanwhile, Harris’ team anticipates a surge following the expected announcement of her running mate and the upcoming Democratic convention in Chicago.
The released figures from both campaigns do not yet include full Federal Elections Commission filings. However, it is clear that the substantial fundraising momentum for Harris increased notably following Biden’s endorsement and decision to step back from the presidential race in late July.
Harris’ campaign underscored that the majority of July donations came from first-time contributors in the 2024 election cycle, with a significant portion of small-dollar contributions indicating broad grassroots support. The campaign noted a high proportion of female donors and highlighted the diversity of its donor base, including groups like Black Women for Harris and Latinas for Harris, which collectively raised over $20 million.
Beyond fundraising, the Harris campaign boasted a surge in volunteer sign-ups and numerous events across battleground states, reflecting a growing and engaged support base leading up to the election.
