Carrie Underwood is set to join the judging panel of “American Idol” for the upcoming season, following Katy Perry’s departure from the show earlier this year. Underwood, who won the singing competition in 2005 and later became a successful country artist, will make her debut as a judge when the show returns in the spring of 2025.

In a heartfelt video announcement, Underwood expressed her pride in her achievements both during and after her time on the show. She is the first former “American Idol” contestant to take on a judging role in the series.

Known for her exceptional talent and numerous accolades in the music industry, Underwood’s addition to the judging panel brings a fresh perspective to the long-running show. She will be joining experienced judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie for “American Idol”’s 23rd season.

Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich welcomed Underwood back to the show, highlighting her successful career since winning “American Idol.” The return of Underwood, along with host Ryan Seacrest, promises a nostalgic and exciting season for audiences.

Auditions for the upcoming season are scheduled to begin in August with a nationwide search for talented singers. The new season will premiere in the spring and will be broadcast on ABC and Hulu.

“American Idol” originally premiered on Fox in 2002, became a major success, and later moved to ABC after a two-year hiatus. The departure of Katy Perry as a judge opened the door for Underwood to step into this coveted role. Requests for comments from Underwood’s representative remain unanswered at the moment.
