Vice President Kamala Harris’ sudden entry into the presidential campaign has led to increased travel, fundraising efforts, filming new ads, and searching for a running mate. Additionally, there have been hastily organized Zoom calls to raise money and rally supporters, including one named “White Dudes for Harris.” In the past week, tens of thousands of individuals have participated in virtual gatherings to show support for Harris among different demographic groups such as Black women, Hispanic women, Black men, Asian Americans, Native Americans, and the LGBTQ+ community.

These Zoom calls, not organized by Harris’ team, have drawn in notable figures like actors Mark Ruffalo, Sean Astin, Mark Hamill, and Bradley Whitford, along with Democratic officials like Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and various governors who have been mentioned as potential running mates for Harris. The campaign has welcomed the assistance and the substantial fundraising these calls have generated.

Political analyst Amit Ahuja emphasized the importance of candidates embracing support from various groups while also offering a unifying personal narrative that can resonate with the broader population. The involvement of celebrities who previously supported Biden’s campaign showcases the need for Harris to appeal to the diverse American populace.

The Trump campaign has also organized events targeting specific demographics, such as Black voters and “Latino Americans for Trump,” in battleground states like Pennsylvania and Georgia. Some Republicans have criticized Harris for her focus on diversity and inclusion, suggesting that her political career was boosted by Democratic diversity initiatives.

These recent developments in Harris’ presidential campaign show the emphasis on building a broad coalition of support that reflects the diversity of the American electorate.
