Deputies in Georgia fatally shoot 2 individuals during warrant service

Sheriff’s deputies serving an arrest warrant on a sex offender for probation violations in Alto, Georgia, encountered a fatal incident on Tuesday. The incident occurred in Banks County and ended in the deaths of two individuals. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that deputies entered the residence after 11 a.m. and subsequently shot and killed the two individuals for reasons not disclosed by officials. There was no information provided about the events leading up to the fatal shootings. Despite the deputies taking swift action, the two individuals succumbed to their injuries at the scene and were not able to be transported to a medical facility. Fortunately, no deputies were harmed during the incident.
Banks County sheriff’s deputies were at the location but were not directly involved in the shooting. In Georgia, it is not uncommon for law enforcement officers to execute warrants in neighboring jurisdictions. Autopsies are being performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on the deceased individuals, whose identities will be revealed following notification of their next of kin. Further details, such as whether the deceased were armed, have yet to be disclosed by the GBI.
As part of standard procedure for police-involved shootings in Georgia, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an inquiry into the incident. Upon the completion of the investigation, the Banks County district attorney will determine if criminal charges are warranted. Additionally, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is also carrying out its own investigation into the matter.
