A Gaza father grieves the loss of his infant son in bed due to an Israeli airstrike

In Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip, a Palestinian toddler tragically lost his life as a result of an Israeli airstrike. The child, named Yaman, was killed instantly, leaving his father, Mahmoud Mikdad, devastated. The emotional scene outside the hospital saw Mikdad holding his son’s lifeless body, questioning why such a young child had to die in such a manner.
Since Monday night until Tuesday, over 60 Palestinians in southern and central Gaza fell victim to Israeli strikes, as per hospital records and health officials. Israel has claimed to be targeting Hamas militants who are allegedly using civilians as shields after the demolishing of underground tunnel networks.
For Mikdad, the day started as any other, with him putting his son and daughter down for a nap in their temporary shelter. However, an unexpected airstrike shattered their peace, leaving young Yaman dead before reaching the age of 2.
Carrying his son’s body through the streets of Gaza, Mikdad’s grief was palpable as he reached the Al Aqsa Martyrs hospital. Surrounded by others, all mourning the loss of an innocent life, Mikdad expressed his deep love for his son, calling him “more precious than the whole world.”
Shortly after, a small group gathered to perform funeral rites for Yaman, wrapped in a white shroud. The solemnity of the moment was heightened by the silent spectators, including children, who bore witness to the heartbreaking aftermath of the airstrike.
