Billionaire Elon Musk has announced that he will be relocating the headquarters of SpaceX and social media company X from California to Texas. Musk revealed the decision through a post on Tuesday, explaining that SpaceX will move from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas, while X will transition from San Francisco to Austin, Texas.
The relocation comes in response to a recent law signed by California Governor Gavin Newsom, which Musk referred to as the “final straw.” This law prohibits school districts from mandating staff to inform parents about their child’s gender identification change. Musk communicated that he had previously warned Governor Newsom about the potential consequences of such laws, emphasizing that they could lead families and businesses to depart California in order to safeguard their children.
In 2021, Tesla, where Musk serves as CEO, had already moved its corporate headquarters from Palo Alto, California to Austin. Additionally, Musk disclosed that he had personally shifted his residency from California to Texas, citing the absence of a state personal income tax as a contributing factor to his decision.
