2024 fashion: Embracing rich blues and timeless neutrals

Do you know which colors flatter you the most? You may already have an idea of what shades complement your skin tone or receive the most compliments, but the 2024 fashion color trends have taken color analysis to the next level, especially on platforms like TikTok. The latest trend involves personal color analysis, where individuals sit in chairs while color analysts drape different colored fabrics around them. This helps viewers easily determine which colors look best on the person, categorizing them into spring, summer, fall, or winter palettes with warm or cool undertones.

While the process may appear intricate, its main aim is to assist people in selecting clothing and makeup colors that enhance their appearance. Watching these videos can be quite enjoyable, especially when you see someone’s face light up upon discovering that an unexpected color, such as yellow, suits them perfectly.

The spring/summer 2024 Fashion Week collections showcased an array of vibrant and surprising colors. Drawing inspiration from the collections of Ulla Johnson and Erdem, I am now tempted to purchase a pistachio-colored dress for the first time. Designers played around with various shades of blue, green, pink, purple, and yellow, ranging from pastel hues to rich jewel tones.

Spring is the ideal season to embrace these color trends and welcome the warmer days with lively and fashionable choices. Here are the top 5 colors in for Spring and Summer, according to Style Caster

Cherry red made a significant impact in the latter half of 2023 and is so prevalent in the spring 2024 collections that it might as well be considered a neutral. This vibrant hue is prominently featured in collections from Robert Wun, Valentino, Miss Sohee, and Simone Rocha’s JPG Couture.

White is always in style, but this spring, many designers emphasized crisp white and creamy hues on the runway. White was a standout color in collections from Fendi, Robert Wun, JPG Couture, and Aelis. Traditionally associated with bridal wear and Easter, whites and icy silvers provide a bright, high-contrast alternative to the usual spring pastels.

  • Black and White

The combination of black and white has emerged as the leading color trend in the Spring 2024 fashion shows. Designers like Fendi, Ashi Studio, Alexander Wang, and Viktor and Rolf showcased striking black outfits, often paired with white, sheer fabrics, or light-reflecting textiles. This trend aligns perfectly with the current “Indie Sleaze” and nightlife fashion movements.

  • Brown

Brown has been the go-to neutral for several seasons, offering a soft, ’90s-inspired alternative to black. Even as black regains popularity, cool-toned browns and shades so dark they almost appear black continue to make a strong impression.

  • Rich Blues

Rich, saturated blues paired with neutrals are making a prominent appearance on runways for spring. Particularly when combined with a neutral like brown, blue stands out as a winning choice (for those familiar with YouTube makeup tutorials, think of MAC pigment Blue Brown). Choosing the right shade of blue depends on your undertones.
