Franz Wagner has signed a five-year contract extension with the Orlando Magic, set to be the largest deal in the team’s history. The agreement is said to be valued at a minimum of $224 million, potentially reaching $270 million if he meets certain criteria to become supermax eligible. The NBA’s offseason moratorium on such transactions will be lifted on Saturday, allowing for the official announcement of the deal.

Throughout his three seasons with the Magic, Wagner has maintained an average of 17.8 points per game. His rookie season saw an average of 15.2 points, followed by increases to 18.6 and 19.7 points in the subsequent seasons. The 22-year-old forward, a key player for Germany in their World Cup victory last summer, is also set to compete at the Paris Olympics later this month alongside Paolo Banchero, forming one of the NBA’s most promising young frontcourts.

Having played collegiate basketball at Michigan, Wagner has started all 231 games he has played with the Magic. The team, fresh off a Southeast Division title and their first playoff appearance in four years, advanced to a seven-game series with Cleveland in the first round. Wagner’s extension will go into effect starting from the 2025-26 season.
