1 passenger hospitalized due to turbulence diverting Cancun-to-Chicago flight to Tennessee

A United Airlines flight traveling from Cancun, Mexico, to Chicago was diverted to Memphis International Airport due to severe turbulence, resulting in one individual being taken to a hospital on Wednesday. The person was reported to be in non-critical condition upon arrival at the hospital. Six other individuals on the flight declined treatment and transport to the hospital, according to the Memphis Fire Department. The exact extent of their injuries was not disclosed. The turbulence occurred while the seat belt sign was illuminated, as confirmed by United Airlines. The 737-900ER aircraft, carrying 172 passengers and seven crew members, was en route to Chicago and was set to resume its journey later in the afternoon.
